A deeply personal ink painting rooted in the landscape of Kingussie in the Scottish Highlands. This is not simply a landscape painting. It is an attempt to externalise something that resists direct expression, to let the body process through the marks what the mind struggles to name.

Gynack was the first painting I completed following my autism and ADHD diagnosis, and that shift is present in how it was made. The process was more instinctive than previous work: a feverish, uninterrupted accumulation of marks, trusting the momentum of the making rather than stopping to question it. The abstract textures build up across the canvas in layers, meaning little in isolation but coming together, when you stand back, into something that holds the atmosphere and feeling of the place. There is no single resolved moment in this painting. It arrives gradually, the way recognition does.

The work sits at the intersection of place, embodiment, and neurodivergence, themes that run through the practice as lived conditions rather than abstract ideas. It carries something of the Highland landscape that has shaped so much of my memory and sense of self, and something of what it means to find a language for experience that does not fit neatly into words.

This is a one-of-a-kind original work, painted in black calligraphy ink on canvas board, 30 x 40cm.
